Message from Simon

Dear all,

We’re closing another strange, but a good year at Influence Matters. The news, and business, were once again dominated by pandemic-related ups and downs in China. Quite a few more downs than everyone would have expected or wanted. Despite these challenges, we succeeded in helping our clients navigate the tricky communication environment in China, fully taking advantage of our flexibility, and ability to mix online, digital and offline activities. I am very proud of the many successes we delivered to all of our clients, showing progress and resilience towards our goal: helping innovators to make the world a better place.

We end the year with a boost of confidence in China’s (renewed) growth opportunities. Covid restrictions were mostly lifted in the past 3 weeks, allowing the virus to finally spread in the country – most of us at Influence Matters caught it since, all relatively mildly – allowing people and businesses to see the light, and start planning for a rebound in 2023, and reconnecting to the world. International travel restrictions are expected to ease during the 1st quarter gradually. You should be able to visit China with no quarantine time soon.

In 2023, expect technology cross-border business to grow significantly between China, the West, and South-East Asia. Three years of lockdowns and truncated supply chains have left China’s economy in need to reconnect to the world, and government policies and messages are already signaling a welcoming hand to international businesses which could accelerate the Chinese economy’s recovery. More than just the West, China’s looking at SEA for business partnerships, with economies that are less aggressive geopolitically, willing to invest in China, but also offering growth opportunities for Chinese companies outside of their home markets, especially in the fields of eCommerce, logistics, supply chain, retail, automotive and consumer technology.

Influence Matters is gearing up to support our clients in taking full advantage of the rebound in China, and is building a strong presence in Asia through our network of partners to bring you the full Influence Matters care across the region.

Wishing you all Happy Holidays,
Simon Vericel
