Challenge

Ampere, a new comer in the server chip world, had planned a launch event in Beijing for their ground-breaking ARM based Ampere Altra(TM) chip, taking on industry giants with a next-gen processor purposely built for the cloud computing industry.

However, right after plans were made, the outbreak coronavirus COVID-19 meant a physical event would not be possible. New ideas were in order to ensure Ampere’s stakeholders in China would get the news and access to Ampere for questions.

Strategy

In order to effectively and safely reach key cloud/edge computing, semicon, IT, telecom and other business stakeholders in China and generate awareness around a product set to disrupt cloud computing, Influence Matters swiftly proposed to maintain the press event but hold it virtually to introduce Ampere’s next-gen processor in detail, allow editors to interact with the Ampere team based in the U.S. in a bid to generate informed coverage in key channels to build Ampere’s thought leadership in China.

The team worked closely with Ampere in developing collaterals as well an engaging press release highlighting the advanced features of the Altra™ chip as an innovative solution that resets the cloud computing industry’s expectations.

Influence Matters distributed the press release to the industry ahead of the press event to generate interest, then held a fully virtual press conference through an online video conferencing platform allowing Ampere’s product lead to discuss with over 20 leading Chinese edge/cloud computing, EE, Semicon, IT and business press from China.

Impact

As EETimes China reported after the event: Ampere Altra is the first of the next generation of server microprocessors that are designed for the workloads of today in the cloud and on the edge. The Ampere Altra is delivering breakthrough performance with the industry’s first 80-core, cloud native microprocessor. ”

Ampere’s name and the Altra™ processor shot to the top of China’s cloud computing and server industry newsfeeds instantly, withover 150 media clippings and mentions in leading media generating numerous requests for information from interested stakeholders to the sales team in China.
